Chongqing Tool Works Co., Ltd., formerly Chongqing Tool Works, short name CQ Tools, traces its origin to the Yangtze Iron Works, the predecessor of Shanghai Tool Works founded in 1942. In November 1966, in accordance with the national industrial policy of supporting inland development, the gear cutting tool division of Shanghai Tool Works was wholly relocated to Shuiziba, Daojiao, Chongqing. This established a key state-owned and state-controlled backbone enterprise specializing in small- and medium-module complex gear cutters. The company focuses on the professional development and manufacturing of a series of complex cutting tools, including hobs, shaving cutters, gear shaper cutters, skiving cutters, broaches, and etc. In December 2005, following restructuring, the company became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Chongqing Machine Tool (Group) Co., Ltd.

On June 13, 2008, the company was successfully listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange as part of CQME (Stock Code: 02722.HK).

Qualifications & Honors

The company serves as a standing director member of the Tool Branch of China Machine Tool & Tool Builders' Association (CMTBA), a standing director member of China Metal Cutting Tool Technical Association (CCTA), and a member of the Gears and Electric Drive Branch of China General Machinery Components Industry Association.

The enterprise participates in formulating national industrial standards for complex gear cutting tools. It holds the qualifications of National Level-II Work Safety Standardization Enterprise, Key High-tech Enterprise under the National Torch Program, Chongqing High-tech Enterprise, Chongqing Technological Innovation Demonstration Enterprise and Chongqing Outstanding Integrity Enterprise.

The company operates a Chongqing Enterprise Technology Center and Chongqing Engineering Research Center for Complex Cutting Tools. Relying on the State-recognized Enterprise Technology Center of CHMTI, it has set up a Complex Cutting Tools Research Institute.

CQ Tools has 60‑year experience in the R&D and manufacturing of gear cutting tools, and maintains a nationwide sales and service network. The company is well‑known within the machine‑tool industry for producing special, high‑precision, high‑difficulty and high‑efficiency complex gear cutting tools of small‑and‑medium modules. It once supplied high‑precision small‑module gear cutting tools for component machining for the Chinese Shenzhou‑5 and Shenzhou‑6 manned spacecraft.

Its products mainly serve gear‑processing enterprises for automotive, motorcycle, construction machinery, wind power, high‑speed railway, aerospace, shipbuilding and machine‑tool industries. The products are exported to more than 20 countries and regions including Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, Thailand and Iran. It is a major supplier for China’s gear industry and a renowned manufacturer of complex gear cutting tools in Southwest China.

A number of independently developed products, such as high-efficiency special hobs, high-speed dry-cutting hobs, skiving cutters, and full-circular-arc pinion cutters for chamfering and root relief, have fully realized import substitution and maintained long-term leading domestic technical levels.

More than ten products have been certified as National Key New Products, Chongqing Key New Products, Chongqing Famous Brand Products and Chongqing High-tech Products.

Relocation & Development

In accordance with the document "Notice on Accelerating the Relocation of the Sixth Batch of Key Enterprises with Environmental Pollution and Safety Hazards in the Main Urban Area" (Yu Ban Fa [2011] No. 225), the company invested nearly RMB 200 million in the Luohuang Industrial Park of Jiangjin District from 2013 to 2015, built an industrialization base for high‑precision, high‑efficiency and high‑reliability complete sets of complex cutting tools with occupying an area of nearly 160 mu (106,000 m²). The full‑scale environmental‑protection‑driven relocation was completed on December 7, 2015. Upon completion, the construction area of production workshops reached 30,000 square meters, with total assets of RMB 310 million.

Between 2016 and 2020, CQ Tool underwent multiple adjustments to its asset composition, organizational structure, human resources and product mix, aiming to streamline assets, refine product offerings and enhance corporate competitiveness.

In August 2020, in accordance with the guidelines for deepening state-owned enterprise reform issued by the CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee and Chongqing Municipal People’s Government, as well as the relevant deployment of Chongqing SASAC and the overall requirements for deepening the three-system reform from Chongqing Machinery & Electric Group, and in combination with its actual operational conditions, future development strategies and the overall arrangement of CHMTI, CQ Tool completed a full-scale relocation from Luohuang Industrial Park in Jiangjin District to the Chongqing Machinery & Electric High-end Intelligent Equipment Industrial Park in Nan’an Economic and Technological Development Zone. Following this relocation, the company further optimized its asset scale and composition, management structure and staffing structure.
